Over the past 6 years we have been homeschooling I have searched high and low to find the perfect homeschool planner. I’ve tried to make so many of them work only to feel like I’m failing by not filling in all the intended goal sheets etc. It was feeling like too much paper work. I felt like I was having a staff meeting with myself monthly and failing miserably.
It wasn’t until 2 years I finally threw in the towel and created my own planner, I need one that worked with me and was simplified. I started by following a monthly calendar and after a year of practicing and perfecting my planner, I released it to other homeschool Moms to use and it was a huge success. The feedback was amazing and allowed me to continue to create.
This past year we hit another milestone and released our dated homeschool planner on Amazon.
While I felt like the monthly planner was great for keeping me focused month to month, I needed to be able to look ahead and also behind to make sure we had covered what was intended so we could build on our skills. This is why buying a homeschool-specific planner is important rather than buying a general teacher planner. We need to be able to focus on each individual child and their interests and needs.

If you’re are still in need of a homeschool planner for the 2023-2024 homeschool year you can purchase the digital copy from my shop here or you can purchase the printed version from Amazon here.
Student planners are also available new to our shop!
Here are several reasons other reasons buying a specific homeschool planner is important and what you can find in the planners I have created:
- Tailored to Homeschooling Needs: Homeschooling has unique requirements that differ from traditional schooling. A homeschool-specific planner is designed to accommodate these specific needs, providing sections and features that support homeschooling organization and record-keeping. It includes spaces for tracking curriculum, lesson plans, attendance, field trips, assessments, and other homeschool-specific activities.
- Organization and Efficiency: Homeschooling involves managing multiple subjects, resources, and schedules. A homeschool planner helps parents stay organized by providing a centralized place to plan and track lessons, assignments, and progress. It helps parents effectively manage their time, resources, and commitments, leading to increased efficiency in homeschooling operations.
- Record-Keeping and Compliance: Homeschooling often requires maintaining records and documentation for legal compliance or reporting purposes. Here in Pennsylvania we are required to track homeschool days, a book list and curriculum progress. Our homeschool planner includes sections for documenting attendance, completed coursework and other necessary information. Having a dedicated space for record-keeping ensures that homeschoolers can easily fulfill legal requirements and maintain a comprehensive academic record.
- Personalization and Customization: Homeschool-specific planners often offer options for customization to fit individual homeschooling styles, preferences, and curriculum choices. They may provide flexibility in choosing layouts, sections, and additional features based on personal needs. This personalization allows homeschooling parents to adapt the planner to their specific homeschooling approach, making it a more effective tool. You can find a section to personalize your tracking; whether it be curriculum, physical education, a reading goal or courses taken.
- Visual and Physical Organization: Homeschool planners provide a visual and physical structure that aids in planning and organization. They offer clear sections, calendars, and layouts that help parents visualize their homeschooling schedule, goals, and progress. The act of physically writing down plans and crossing off completed tasks can enhance focus, accountability, and a sense of accomplishment.
- Accountability and Reflection: Our homeschool planner encourages accountability and reflection for both parents and students. By documenting lesson plans, and evaluations, homeschooling families can assess progress, identify areas of improvement, and make adjustments as necessary. Regularly reviewing and reflecting on the planner helps maintain a sense of direction and fosters continuous growth in the homeschooling journey. Reflection and accessing to me differs from goal setting, goal setting feel rigid so I created a section at the end of the planner to reflect on what did and didn’t work that year so you can set yourself up for another year of progress.
- Parent-Child Collaboration: A homeschool planner can serve as a communication tool between parents and children. It allows for collaboration in planning activities and tracking progress. In each weekly section you will also find room for planning your family’s week and even meal planning. I let my family weigh in each week on what they would like to eat so I don’t have to do all the decision making. Children can also be involved in recording their accomplishments, reflecting on their learning, and taking ownership of their education. This shared planning and reflection process can strengthen the parent-child relationship and foster a sense of responsibility in the learning process.
- Mental and Emotional Support: Homeschooling can sometimes be overwhelming, with multiple responsibilities and tasks to manage. A homeschool planner offers a sense of structure and control, reducing stress and providing a tool for homeschooling parents to organize their thoughts and plans. It can help alleviate the mental burden and promote a sense of confidence and well-being.
Overall, a homeschool-specific planner serves as a valuable tool to support organization, record-keeping, customization, accountability, reflection, and collaboration within the homeschooling journey. It enhances efficiency, reduces stress, and provides a sense of structure and control, making it an essential resource for homeschooling families.
