Our Homeschool Week

We had our first full homeschool week packed with all of our extracurricular activities, projects and curriculum.

We’ve been back homeschooling for a month but not everything has been back in full swing until this week.

I love the extracurricular activities homeschool kids pick because they’re so unique to their interests, the friends they make are genuine and there’s no forced interactions.

In 4H this week they looked at stool samples under the microscope and identified parasites.

The activities my oldest is involved in this year are alpaca training, Girl Scouts, 4H, piano and horseback riding. And as a family we are involved in a nature co-op I am running this year.

It was a chaotic week adjusting to all the activities taking place in one week but fun chaos.

It was also an adjustment because we scaled back on the time the kids spend on their devices. We’re always met with resistance in this area and I’m okay with that cause I know what’s best. And I’m just thinking of this now and kind of patting myself on the back, we didn’t watch any television this week. The kids watched in the car on our way to and from activities but it wasn’t on in the background at home.

We did however upgrade our piano lessons from just the keyboard book from Amazon to Hoffman Academy and it’s been brilliant! Which I’m not saying the keyboard book was bad by any means, it was great for where we started in our journey but was time to move on.

And if you’re looking for keyboard stickers, we have these and they’ve saved so many tears!

The kids were much more engaged without the devices and we finished our family read aloud, Little House in the Big Woods. We’re reading the Little House Series this year, it was fun reading it as a family and seeing the progress of Norahs first book report.

Some of the activities and subjects the kids participated in this week:

It’s not available until Monday but the kids played with the hands-on math activities I created to go along with the book, Minnie’s Diner, a Multiplying Menu.

My youngest did a lot of hands-on activities including his TotSchool at Home, working on the letter “C”.

He also really enjoyed some resources from the Back-To-School Bundle, I set those up for him in a tray with dyed beans.

He also got into the Magnatiles this week, I’m going to add more of these to his Christmas list. They’re hands down one of the best kids toys.

My oldest really got into the swing of things with using her Student Planner. With it being our first full week back-to-school she really got into the habit of using it.

She also started a new independent read, she finished the American Girl, Josefina series and is now onto A Josefina Mystery.

And while we were supposed to have a party for her tomorrow, we decided to postpone due to the tail end of the hurricane hitting us but we were still able to surprise her with two rare chickens called Ayam Cemanis, she has wanted this breed for a few years now and it was nice to be able to make that happen for her.

Tell us how your week went. Any exciting plans for the coming week?

Happy Homeschooling!
